Jennifer 2nd: Film
There was a girl named Sarah whose father was at the battlefield. Her father was famous with his great fortune. Before he went to the battlefield, he took Sarah to a boarding school and gave the teacher a huge amount of money. The teacher treated Sarah as a princess since then. However, once she heard a new that Sarah’s father was killed at the war, and did not leave any fortune for Sarah, she put Sarah in the dark attic and treated her as a servant. Her attitude toward Sarah changed humongous depending on the money she had. Through many events, Sarah met her father who lost his memory temporarily, still with a great fortune. The teacher tries her best to keep Sarah in the school with the money, but Sarah left the school.
Sarah was a girl with extremely hopeful and positive mind. Even when she was having a hard time missing her father, she was nice to the servant girl Becky, and her peers. The movie’s message is that even in a bad situation, with hope and loving mind, one could overcome the conflict and be blessed. One in a poor situation could watch the movie to be encouraged and gain new strength from it. The moral hidden in the movie is the message, which the director wanted to tell the audience.

Many people heard about stop loss for the first time as they watched this movie. The director’s purpose of revealing the unfair policy called stop loss was successfully done. Many people who watched the movie unintentionally believed there was something wrong with the government. The message against Bush affected the people’s thinking greatly through the story plot. One usually feels sympathy for the main character. A few actually changed their opinion about the policy after watching the movie. The movie had a great influence on people’s speculation.

Moon-Kyung (1)
Generally this isn't a specific song or piece that talks about poverty, but the fact that 'music' is used to promote a campaign for the poor in Africa shows us how music can be used to make a broader statement (out of just its words and melodies), as a form of culture and a social connector. Music makes people act by not just affecting them emotionally, but also by being a form of medium for consensus between music-lovers (this is something new that I’ve realized through this research). There is no specific bias in this campaign, because it isn’t voicing a statement of a specific person or a group, nor is it for a personal benefit. It is for the ‘poor’ people, who can be considered as a specific group that the campaign dedicates to, and we can say that it is biased in saying that the poor in Africa need help, rather than leaving them alone to survive on their own. But since such view is a worldly accepted notion, it’s rather meaningless to criticize it logically.
There also was a blog in MSN that is continuous of this campaign, with different artists that have joined to support and promote the website. This also shows that different artists that represent the music industry can be a motivation to their fans to also support what they support. This is a very indoctrinated, sometimes even a dangerous form of mass media that can lure the fans into doing something they don’t really want to, but it’s hard to say that it is biased because the fans have chosen which artists to follow and whether to follow or not by themselves without specific intentional persuasion, except for appealing with their music.

Media Assignment 2
This article, interviewed by Kimberly Lewkowitz of CNN, was about an Indian family who lost a family member due to an illness. Moreover, the poverty the family has to deal with. In the article, the author notes that the family lives in a small house for a 300 rupee (7$) a month rent. If we look at it in our perspective, $7 is not a lot of money. Our lunch probably costs more than that. However, for the family in India, $7 is probably worth as much as $1,000.
For this specific article, I believe that the author is doing the work necessary in order to get the information needed. He asks if any family members have died from an illness. From my perspective, that question is very rude to ask. However, I understand the interviewer’s duty to get the information. Moreover, as the interview proceeds, the interviewers himself says, “In my mind I could not find the answer for why I have been so blessed in life and others have not.” This sentence itself proves to the readers that the interviewers is not only thinking about himself, but also thinking about other who are not as blessed as he is. However, as readers, it is possible to think that the interviewers had put this quote in to sound un-bias. That is us, as readers, to never find out. Anyhow, for the characteristics of the article, the diction used to describe the emotions and the actions are profound.

Media Assignment
For this specific article, I believe the students are the ones being impacted the most of the experience of poverty. As noted in the article, the students were invited to a ceremony of the Desphande family for their son, who graduated MIT. Until after a week, the students were unaware of the gravity of poverty. The student decided to go downtown for a weekend. “It was in this particular adventure that I began understanding the inescapable poverty in the Hubli people's lives. The townspeople walked barefoot in the muddy streets, carrying hefty baskets on top of their heads. Countless unsupervised children darted back and forth, some on rusty bikes, others in the hands of other siblings”(Lewkowitz). Not too much later, the students head back to the hotel. On his way to the hotel, he witnesses a crowd of people. The student stops and goes with the crowd to witness the unexpected, a dead man. I deduce that this few hours in downtown dazed the student. The poverty the people live in. The purpose of this article is obviously to notify the world with the poverty that people still deal with today. The characteristics of the media, internet, is simple and to the point. Almost anyone can read it anytime and be impacted just like me. Although I only read two articles of poverty so far, the two articles were very sturdy and has changed my thoughts on poverty drastically. I never really that poverty was so drastic in other countries. However, reading about poverty and reflecting on it, I hope to change and learn more about it.

JAcob Kim Step 4
Growing up in
This is where I got my impact. Because the internet is so easy to get sidetracked, I could not get focused whenever I was on the internet. However, as I matured, I started to realize that computer entertainment is not going to get me anywhere in life. From that point on, I tried to stay focus on my work, but it did not happened over night. It probably took my about a year until I could fully focus on my work and then play me games or do whatever. Anyhow, the internet taught me a simple, but rather important lesson – staying focused. This had the mot impact on me because starting from high school, I realized that staying focused during class is really important because the material is hard to grasp. However, because I had learned to stay focused, I believe my high school year has been easier than it would have if I did not learn how to stay focused.
Step 3 Newspaper
A newspaper is a written publication containing news, information and advertising, usually printed on low-cost paper called newsprint. General-interest newspapers often feature articles on political events, crime, bines, art/entertainment, society, and sports. Most traditional papers also feature an editorial page containing columns which express the personal opinions of writers. Supplementary secant may contain advertising, comics, coupons, and other printed media. Newspapers are mot often published on a daily or weekly basis, and they usually focus on one particular geographic are where most of their reader live. Despite recent setbacks in circulation and profits, newspapers are still the most iconic outlet for news and other type of written journalism.

step4 Jenn: FILM
One of the biggest reasons why people watch films is that they feel vicarious satisfaction. Watching a love story makes one feels like he/she is in love, and an action movie makes one feels like he/she is to save the world as a crime-fighter. As a child, I also wanted to grow old faster so that I could do what the main character of the movie did. It is one of the functions, or powers, that films hold.
Watching movies is one of the most favorite activities of almost everyone in a dorm. As a dorm student, I watch movies frequently with my friends. Every weekend dorm parents borrow a movie to let us watch. It is a time to spend with my friends. Talking about the movie and finding common interests afterwards, we can develop our friendship as well. Among the sources of media, films are influential to my life for the longest period as far as I remember. That is why I think films have the most impact on my life.
Step4:Moon-Kyung (Music)
I see that music has the most impact in my life through daily experience. I’ve gained a lot of psychological help from music, and it was the most convenient and effective method compared to other methods, such as having the empathy of other people, hearing stories of alike people or getting logical solutions to the problems. Different types of music can change my emotion to a very large extent, sometimes helping me control my moods throughout the day by listening to specific types of music. The statements made through the lyrics in the music are much more convincing, since there is an emotional touch to the words, which makes it seem more honest and vivid. Moreover, lyrics are often left vague and open by using diction that has multiple meanings, so I can interpret the lyric in a way that fits my situations or opinions.
