Music is a very important part of my life. And although I do havepre-built philosophies and opinions about a subject, through other mediums of information, music is the mass media that influences me the most, by aggrandizing the certainty in my thoughts. I value pure emotions over logical analysis, since I consider raw feelings without external influences (situations and trends) is the most truthful and valid knowledge a human can posses. I do think evidence and reasoning is valuable in seeing a subject realistically and practically, but I always have an acknowledgement that claims made by such method can be distorted, or challenged, so I take it with criticism. On the other hand, music can be interpreted subjectively by individuals without external influences, if it is heard and analyzed before hearing anyone else’s comments about the piece. But of course the music itself is fundamentally an opinion and feelings of the artist himself, and therefore is already a biased form of information. But somehow it is made into an emotional form, which can be accepted naturally into the mind without much question, if the melody itself is a convincing and moving piece.
I see that music has the most impact in my life through daily experience. I’ve gained a lot of psychological help from music, and it was the most convenient and effective method compared to other methods, such as having the empathy of other people, hearing stories of alike people or getting logical solutions to the problems. Different types of music can change my emotion to a very large extent, sometimes helping me control my moods throughout the day by listening to specific types of music. The statements made through the lyrics in the music are much more convincing, since there is an emotional touch to the words, which makes it seem more honest and vivid. Moreover, lyrics are often left vague and open by using diction that has multiple meanings, so I can interpret the lyric in a way that fits my situations or opinions.
